| Franklin County Franklin County is a county of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2010 census, the population was 31,704.[1] Its county seat is Russellville.[2] Its name is in honor of Benjamin Franklin, famous statesman, scientist, and printer.[3] It is a dry county, although the city of Russellville is wet. Franklin County was established on February 6, 1818. As of the census[12] of 2010, there were 31,704 people, 12,286 households, and 8,741 families residing in the county. The population density was 57 people per square mile (22 km2). There were 14,022 housing units at an average density of 21.7 per square mile (8/km2). The racial makeup of the county was 83.0% White (non-Hispanic), 3.9% Black or African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 10.5% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. 14.9% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 12,286 households out of which 30.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.5% were married couples living together, 12.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.9% were non-families. 26.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.05 In the county, the population was spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37.8 years. For every 100 females there were 99.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.3 males. The median income for a household in the county was $33,942, and the median income for a family was $44,352. Males had a median income of $31,997 versus $22,747 for females. The per capita income for the county was $18,094. About 14.9% of families and 19.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 26.2% of those under age 18 and 13.2% of those age 65 or over. Russellville is a city in Franklin County in the U.S. state of Alabama. At the 2010 census, the population of the city was 9,830,[4] up from 8,971 at the 2000 census. The city is the county seat of Franklin County. |
